Our position

AI should be a learning partner, a coach, and a feedback tool. It should not be a replacement for students, an essay generator, or a shortcut around learning.

Our commitments

• No answer generation for essays. SmartEssay.ai is prompt-locked to coach the writer's process — outlines, evidence, revision — not to produce a finished essay a student can submit as their own.
• Guided reading, not summaries. Smart-Reader.ai builds close-reading scaffolds, questions, and vocabulary support instead of shortcutting comprehension.
• Teacher-in-the-loop lessons. SmartTeacher.ai drafts standards-aligned lessons in about 30 seconds — the teacher edits, approves, and delivers. Pedagogy stays with the human.
• Human oversight by design. Every AI response happens inside a teacher-designed workflow. Students and teachers can see and edit what the AI produced.
• Transparent AI behavior. The tools are configured to refuse doing the thinking for the student. When the AI can't help without crossing that line, it says so.
• Student data is not sold. We don't sell student data or use it to train third-party models.
• Model choices are intentional. We select models based on educational fit, safety, and reliability — not novelty. We update this page when the stack changes materially.

How we build

Every Tilt.University tool is designed to keep the student in the driver's seat: guiding questions, scaffolded organization, and honest feedback. Product decisions run through a simple test — does this feature grow the student's thinking, or replace it?

What we ask of students

Use AI to think deeper, explore ideas, receive feedback, and improve your skills. Do not use AI to skip the process of learning. Your ideas, your voice, and your thinking matter — always make the final work your own.

What we ask of teachers

Set clear expectations for when AI can be used and how. Use our tools to make student thinking visible — reviewing outlines, revisions, and reading responses is often more revealing than the final product.

What we ask of families

Talk with your student about what AI is for. The goal isn't a faster assignment — it's a stronger thinker. Ask your student to walk you through what the AI asked them, not just what they turned in.
